Creating a Bookworm

It is a lucky child whose parents instill the love of reading in them because this love can remain with the child for a lifetime. Teaching children to love reading can start even before birth by reading aloud while pregnant. The sound of the mother’s voice seems to be soothing to the fetus. Once the baby is born, reading aloud is the best way to instill the importance and passion for reading.

When a child learns to read by themselves, parents can encourage them by having the child read aloud and then reading aloud to them. Children learn from what they see more than what they are told so seeing adults reading is great reinforcement of the importance of reading.

If your child shows evidence of being a bookworm, rejoice. This is a wonderful trait as they have learned how to value the written word and learn from it.
